CAPTURING CREATIVITY

Hello Neighbor,
I hope your month is off to a good start & your craft days have been full of fun. As a creator, I pour my heart into designing and crafting beautiful paper goods, from greeting cards to scrapbooks & journals.
However, there’s one area of my business that has always felt like an uphill battle—photography. It’s no secret that a great photo can make all the difference when it comes to showcasing products, yet for me, capturing that perfect shot has never come naturally.
Photography is an art form in itself, and like any art, it requires practice, patience, and a keen eye for detail. While I can design intricate paper goods with ease, translating their beauty into a well-lit, aesthetically pleasing image has been a challenge.
I’ve spent countless minutes adjusting lighting, repositioning products, and experimenting with backgrounds, only to feel like my photos don’t quite do my work justice.

Despite the struggle, I’ve committed to improving my photography skills. I’ve researched product photography techniques, invested in better lighting (I brought one of those photo boxes & didn't have success with that) and even experimented with editing software to enhance my images. I’ve realized that natural light is my friend, and finding the right time of day to take photos has made a world of difference.
One of my biggest takeaways has been that progress is more important than perfection. Every time I take new photos, I learn something new—whether it’s the importance of angles or the impact of shadows.
While photography may never be my greatest strength, I’ve come to appreciate the process. Each imperfect photo is a steppingstone toward improvement, and the more I practice, the better I become. I’ve also learned to give myself grace—after all, I’m a maker first and a photography doesn't come as second nature.
For anyone else struggling with photography, my advice is simple: keep trying. Watch tutorials, play around with lighting and composition, and don’t be afraid to experiment. With time and effort, even the most challenging skills can become less intimidating & more fun.

At the end of the day, what matters most is the story behind each product, and I’m learning to trust that my passion and creativity will shine through—whether my photos are picture-perfect or not. If you have any tips for me, Neighbor, I'm happy to hear them. Find me on Instagram or get in touch with me. Thanks for being here on my journey.
Sincerely,
Ruthie
