CAPTURING CREATIVITY

Hello Neighbor, I hope all is well with you,

Do you know why I like crafting? I like crafting because crafting is therapeutic for me. I'm grateful to have customers who have been patient when I create their custom orders. "Give me about two weeks," I tell them. Does it normally take two weeks? No, not all the time. I like the extra time because I'm also living life filled with errands, scheduled events, & lots & lots of driving. So, when I get to sit down & craft or work on an order, I am gone. I'm checked out for hours & nothing else gets done. Food? What's that? I can't be bothered but it doesn't always play out that way.

The picture I have posted is of four different kinds of journals or keepsakes that I create. The one in the top, left-hand corner, is something new I'm trying. I'll be the first to tell you that I don't really enjoy making them because their simple. I know how that sounds. I started making them because a couple people requested them. I think it just has to grow on me.

Picture on the top left corner

Those particular books are made from actual books that I scooped the pages out of. I re-covered the book based on a theme I was trying to create.

What I had in mind for the books: I imagined they would make good journals for weekend getaways or adventures.

The books hold about 26-52 pages (front & back). One is a theme called 'Under the Night Sky' & the other: 'Teatime'. These books start at $50.

The second picture on the far right with Pocahontas is the one I like to create. I made this one personally for myself & felt I went a little overboard with it. When I look at it, I know there are things I would like to change in the future if I ever re-create it again. To be clear, I don't make the journals that wide. Their normally 5.5 x 7.5 and roughly 2 inches wide give or take. Those type of journals are created from recyclable materials such as cereal boxes (most of my work usually does).

I reinforce the insides with the cardboard of frozen pizza boxes (because we eat a lot of pizza, thanks to my little guy). After adding all the pages, (roughly between 128-158 pages front & back) my favorite part is the dangles. I adore dangles & I can't tell you why. I just do. They bring me joy; they make me smile. They're cool! These journals typically start around $75 add an additional $10 if you want it customized. Check out the Instagram page to see more custom work.

The third picture on the bottom left, with the butterfly is a hybrid between a journal & storing polaroid picture. I specifically made that one for polaroid pictures the same way I created the Christmas one (located on the bottom right-hand corner of the picture above).

They're both created with recyclable materials.

The last picture is more of a photo album & only spare enough room to write on the back of the page if one wants to document what's going on & where it was taken & such.

Versus the previous photo (the hybrid), allows the writer to document, store & add pictures. It's similar to a journal but with less space & more intentional.

The pages on these books are really thick & usually consist of about 14 pages (front & back). Both these books start at $40.

So, let's recap: most if not all of the journals created are made from recyclable materials such as cereal boxes, frozen pizza boxes, snack boxes etc. etc. Very few are created from actual books. They vary in size & are created with intention, with love, & with joy. I am inspired by other people's work, by the things around me, by books, by nature, by the Holy Spirit whose name I call Rue (it's a nickname & I'll talk about him in a future post). I craft because it takes my mind off the hard things of life. It gives me a place of refuge & peace. I hope doing something you enjoy is bringing you joy and keeping your mind light.

Sincerely,

Ruthie
